This was enjoyable. I think it’s fair to say now that I’m on my second series of hers that I love Robin Hobb’s low-key, slow, action-light brand of fantasy, and it’s great here. The characters and their relationships feel very real, the stakes are high, and the politics are complex. The ending was a bit weak, and I found that some characters’ names blended together, but it was overall a really enjoyable read, and I’ll definitely be sticking with the rest of the trilogy.
